The Holy Spirit’s Flame of Repentance in Malawi

In 2005 Pastor Edward Mikwamba from Malawi attended an African Prayer Summit in South Africa.  With representatives from 50 nations he experienced being part of the Body of Christ and was touched by the power of repentance.

In 2008 he connected by email with a pastor in the United States. Bibles were sent and a friendship began.  In 2013, that pastor having started a repentance ministry, Pastor Edward was encouraged to hold a “National Repentance Week” with intercessors from Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa and Mozambique. Participants confessed their own sins and the sins of the nation and prayed for rains.  The Lord answered; the rains poured down; other pastors and local media saw the power of repentance.

Pastors in Mangochi, Thyolo and Chikwawa then held repentance gatherings, preaching repentance in more corners of Malawi. Many saw that repentance was moving God’s Hand to supply the rains and food needed to feed 18 million Malawians.

At one repentance conference in Thyolo  three thousand attended; many were saved and were baptized in the nearby river.

God’s gift of repentance then spread. Bishop Joseph Kazembe from Malawi traveled to Ghana, Tanzania, and South Africa preaching repentance.

In 2019 national elections were held bringing into power a new government promising reform.  The opposition disputed the result,  claimed  fraud, and  appealed to  the Malawi Supreme Court.

To heal Malawi and protect the possibility of a new Godly direction Pastors who had connected earlier through the numerous repentance conferences began speaking on radio and social media.  They also held more repentance gatherings in Chatonda, Dedza, Zomba and Chikwawa, each time confessing the sins of the nation, each time praying for the Supreme Court to uphold the rule of law and not to be bribed by the election opponents, a practice that many believed had happened before.

Prayers were answered.  Members of the Court upheld the law, found no  fraud, and called for a new election.  People danced in the streets!

Giving thanks to God, more repentance gatherings were held.  A Malawi  Repentance Facebook page and a website were then launched: www.nationalrepentancemalawi.org

The Lord has to have been pleased. His Hand has protected Malawi from the current global pandemic. Apart from one small outbreak now confined, brought by a foreign visitor arriving by plane, Malawi has been free of the corona virus.

Given the Holy Spirit Flame of Repentance already lit in Malawi, we honor Malawi as the first of many nations,  the first to light  its portion of the globe on this Global Day of Repentance.

What is the Malawi Miracle?

The Malawi Miracle is that, until very recently, and unlike almost every other nation on the planet, tiny Malawi recorded NO instances of COVID-19 breaking out in their country.

What has happened recently?

About three weeks ago, one person did enter Malawi from another nation. That person was tested positive for COVID-19 and quarantined. Since that time, Malawi continues to experience God's mercy, with only three deaths reported as of this date among their 18,000,000 citizens. With these statistics, the nation of Malawi seems to have found the KEY to stopping the plague: that key is to be on their knees in repentance. (Numbers 16:47-50)

Is there a reason WHY the nation of Malawi has been spared this pandemic?

The answer is: YES. For the past ten years, the people of Malawi, under the leadership of their pastors, have entered into a time when the whole nation would take one day on their faces, offering prayers of REPENTANCE for personal and national sins.

What happened next?

As the Coronavirus Pandemic broke out, first in China and then across the world, we have been seeking our Lord to see if there might be some way to STOP THE PLAGUE.

He then led us to THIS Scripture Numbers 16: 46-48: And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.

And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.”

THE OBVIOUS CONCLUSION IS THAT, JUST AS AARON STOOD IN THE GAP FOR THE SINS OF HIS PEOPLE, THE PLAGUE WAS STOPPED (EVEN AFTER IT HAD BROKEN OUT), IN THE NATION OF MALAWI, TOO.

ACTS OF REPENTANCE SEEM TO HAVE STOPPED THE PLAGUE!

Malachi 3:6: “I am GOD and I change not!”

What is happening now?

As prayer leaders in other nations have learned about the Malawi Miracle, and as we have all been desperately seeking God for His answer to stop the plague, we have asked the prayer leaders of the nation of Malawi to allow us to join them in decreeing ONE DAY OF GLOBAL REPENTANCE for our own national and personal sins.

This is based upon the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:13,14: When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Don’t we need to ask our own “kings” to join us in repentance?

The answer to this question . . . and the good news is: no! God is not calling for KINGS to enter in – only for “My people” to do so!

What date is the Global Day of Repentance to Take Place?

Our first Global Day of Repentance is Friday, May 1, 2020 @ 12pm (Jerusalem Time) - 24 Hours Praying for Repentance. We are praying for more nations and global days of repentance to follow.

How can I join this movement?

Please go here to register your nation on the growing list of participants. No names will be named on this website (with the exception of leaders in Malawi), for only HIS NAME will receive the GLORY and the HONOR and the PRAISE from the peoples of the earth!

Is there some way I can track which nations have signed on?

YES! You will be blessed to study our map of the WORLD, and watch as nation after nation after nation joins Malawi in the GLOBAL DAY OF REPENTANCE.

Closing Comments:

Until now, many of us have been crying out to see a National Day of Repentance “take hold” in our own lands, but now GOD IS SAYING TO COME UP HIGHER! Through the witness and the testimony of the Malawi Miracle, we are now blessed to join forces with them at the GLOBAL LEVEL so that, together, as the Body of Christ WORLDWIDE, we can enter into His gates, repenting of our sin and asking for His help in His nations in this time of need. Amen
